St. Louis breaks ground on $35M affordable housing project at Clinton Peabody
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - City leaders broke ground Friday on a redevelopment project at the Clinton Peabody Complex near downtown St. Louis.
Public and private partners are investing $35 million to construct 89 new energy-efficient apartments across three buildings at the site.
Officials with the St. Louis Housing Authority said the groundbreaking represents the first phase of a larger development plan.
“We are laying the foundation for greater opportunity, greater stability and greater prosperity that will benefit families for many, many generations to come,” said LaTasha Barnes, executive director of the St. Louis Housing Authority.
Officials said the design and planned improvements were shaped by input from current residents of the complex.
The new apartments are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2028.
